A Short Overview of Acne

Acne is a worse condition which, when appears on skin, starts giving an irritating, itching and embarrassing feeling. It normally occurs on face, neck, chest, shoulders and back and these all are those areas of human skin the most number of functional oil glands.

The development areas of acne are those normally visible to others and cannot be hidden. Acne can last for a few months, many years or come and go for entire human life. Mild acne can cause only whiteheads and blackheads. Many times it can convert into infection in the skin pores. In case of severe acne, hundreds of pimples can be produced that cover large skin area. These pimples, that are large and deep, are cystic lesions and they are painful and can leave scars on the affected area. Acne can lead to lower your confidence, self-esteem and depression. Acne can take the following forms;

Non-Inflammatory Lesions

These include whiteheads and blackheads. The opened form of skin surface is called blackheads because of the dark appearance of the plugs in the hair-follicles. When the comedowns are closed, they are called whiteheads. These are slightly raised and are of skin-color.

Inflammatory Lesions

Papules

They occur due to inflammation or infection and are red in color.

Pustules

These are red with white pus at their tips.

Nodules

These are large, solid, and painful beneath the surface of skin.

Cysts

These are pus-filled and painful and they also can cause scars.

Causes of Acne

There are multiple things that contribute in growth of acne. When inside the hair follicle, the abnormal cells are developed causing acne. A certain type of bacteria that lies in the skin hair-follicles also develops acne and it is called Propionibacterium Acne causing inflammation and it one of the other factors in causing androgens. These are male hormones that are present in both men and women, but are higher in men. In girls, the acne is a 90% common problem that occurs due to the presence of female hormone called estrogens. Some acne cases are result of genetic factors that have not yet been discovered.

Acne Diagnosis

To diagnose acne one of the main actions to be performed is to contact a good dermatologist who will examine your skin type to make sure you have acne. In present time, there are many treatments effective to get rid of acne, but every treatment doe not mean to work for everyone.

Procedures that treat acne are as follows;

Laser & Other Light Therapies

These devices reduce bacteria of acne. Your doctor determines whether you should go for it or not.

Chemical Peels

The doctor can only use chemical peels to treat two types of acne blackheads and papules.

Acne Removal

For removing large acne cyst, the dermatologist may perform a procedure called ‘drainage and extraction’.

Many other typical treatments are applied to the skin which may contain anti-biotic, retinoid, etc. Your dermatologist best determines what you need.

From the above context, it is obvious that acne being a great problem especially to youngsters can now be solved properly if acne victim follows proper guidelines of their skin advisor to get rid of it. The girls especially become much happier to get a permanent treatment of acne.
